Flooring

Flooring includes; rugs, carpets, tiles, wood, vinyl laminate, marble floors etc. During the rainy season, the floors tend to get messy due to the constant traffic and wetness caused by the rains. Invest in a cleaning machine, mops and cleaning agents because you would clean more often than you do during the dry season. You can also get a hard-wearing entrance mat which will absorb the wetness and can be easily dried.

Waterproof

Waterproof space under your doors and windows to avoid rain water trickling into your house through those openings.

Use mild heat emitting paints when doing up your walls.

Put away the sheers this season and put up lined drapes. This is the time for curtains that trap warmth.

Change bed sheets at least every other day. In the event that someone has a cold or catarrh, this prevents skin irritations as a result of sleeping on dried mucous.

The anteroom is a large entrance, reception room, or waiting area. It is usually the first place visitors enter before entering into the main house, or building. Your anteroom should not only be welcoming, it should also blend with the rest of your décor.

·         Choose Colour Scheme

Does the anteroom have sufficient lighting? If there is sufficient light in the anteroom, you can paint a warm colour like terracotta or forest green to take advantage of the light. If there is no light you can paint colours that will work well with artificial lighting which you will install.

Today, we will consider chairs and sofas. 

The sofa is the single most important furniture in the living room therefore you need to make a statement with it.

I sometimes think that's why it is called the sitting room!

Before acquiring your sofa, it is advisable to consider the size of your sitting room, the way you live (your lifestyle) and the style you intend to create in your space... For example, you need to consider your family size and what suits everyone likely to be using the furniture once installed in terms of height, depth, design fabric and even colour of the sofa.

If you have very young children, tough fabrics may be better than leather fabrics for your sofas, while wooden centre tables may be preferable to glass ones.

Comfort is also very important; your sofas should not only be trendy and glamorous, they must  provide seating comfort!!! Your sofas must serve the dual purpose of aesthetics & functionality.

Make Your Own Throw pillow

Throw pillows are great, they make the living room exciting adding to the overall beauty and elegance of the home.

Making a throw pillow is very simple, even a beginner can make beautiful ones.

Why don't you try your hands on personalizing your throw pillows today?

Here are the steps for making beautiful throw pillows:

Materials required:
• Any fabric of your choice
• A pair of dressmaking scissors
• Measurement tape
• Cushion pad
• Steam iron
• Matching thread
• 3 buttons
• Pins
• Button holder
• Sewing machine

1. Cut a piece of fabric 5cm (2 inches) wider than the cushion pad and two and a half times long. Turn under the short edges of the fabric 2.5cm (1 inch) and iron. Place the cushion pad on top of the fabric and fold the fabric over the top, overlapping the edges. Press the side folds with a steam iron.

2. Using a sewing machine, over-sew the fabric edges with zigzag stitch in a matching colour thread. This will stop the fabric edges from fraying when you wash the covers.

3. Make three buttonholes on one of the back flaps of the cushion cover. To do this, first measure the width of the buttons, then mark the position of the buttonholes with pins inserted 3mm (1/8 inch) wider apart than the width of the buttons. Stitch two rows of close zigzag stitch in between the pins, then longer zigzag stitches at each side. Slit the fabric between the two rows of stitching with a button holder, being careful not to cut the threads. Remove the pins.

4. Place the right sides of the fabric together, ensuring that the flap with the buttonholes is positioned under the other flap; pin, then machine stitch down the sides of the cover. Remove the pins then turn the cover the right side out through the back flap and press.

5. Sew the buttons on to the second back flap, ensuring that they are in the right position for the buttonholes. Insert the cushion pad and button up the cover to finish.

Voila! 5 easy steps and you have produced an original throw pillow just for you!
