Wallpapers are
available in many designs, textures and colors; this gives you a wide range to
choose from. Vinyl or duplex paper wallpapers are great for hallways or
passages because there is usually a lot of traffic there. Fleece or textile
wallpaper is perfect for living rooms and dining areas. Vinyl is also perfect
for kitchens because it is washable and durable.
For children’s rooms and bedrooms, natural
breathable wallpaper made of paper or textile is better.
Thick wallpapers
are better than thin wall papers, though they are more expensive. They make
walls smoother and you don’t have to prepare the walls. Also thick wallpapers
are more beautiful and help to hide the flaws of walls.
Colour and
Pattern
Lively colors make
the room interesting and exciting, but it is better to use cooler tones. Pastel
colours are cool, they give the room a peaceful, relaxing ambience.
For rooms that have ample lighting, cool colors like blue, purple, violet, grey, silver,
pink, deep dark burgundy, terra cotta, etc
are more suitable. For darker rooms warm, soft and bright
colours like orange, gold, green, light green, hot pink, beige, peach,
coffee, apricot, and cream colors are
more suitable.
Patterns should
balanced and neutral; avoid incongruous patterns. Fine, small patterns are
suitable for small rooms while big, bold patterns are for large rooms.
Vertical bars make
the wall look taller, however, it could also make it look narrower. Horizontal
bars make the wall look wider, but it can also make the ceiling look lower.
To achieve
balance, you can install dark wallpaper with active patterns on the far wall,
while having a lighter color on the other walls.
It is better to
choose a different color from the furniture for the wallpapers, otherwise the colours
will merge. Instead, choose a complimentary colour.
If you are
planning to decorate your walls with photographs, pictures, plants or other
accessories, use solid, light, smooth wallpaper with a barely noticeable
pattern.
