Decorating Your Dining Room

A dining room serves as a common space for family and friends to congregate and enjoy meals together. The colours of a dining space should reflect an overall feeling of warmth and intimacy. Keeping the following guidelines in mind, one can choose the right colours for the dining room that best reflects personal aesthetics.

Use Warm Colours
Warm colours like shades of red, orange and yellow are great for dining rooms. Warm colours give the dining room an intimate effect and makes the room cosier. Uncommon colours like terracotta, earthy brown or brick red are perfect for customising the dining room for a personal look.

Cool Colours
cool or calm colours are also perfect for dining rooms. Some individuals prefer calm and peaceful ambience during their meal times; light shades of green, various shades of blue and white are good options. Warm colours can also be complemented with softer shades to create a unique blend.

Bold colours
Bold colors like tomato, red can also be used in dining rooms. Red walls are known to stimulate appetite and create an exciting feeling in the dining area. Bold colors can be toned down with softer colors; for example, red can be toned down with yellow. Orange and gold are also great colours for dining areas, they can also be toned down with softer colours.

A great way to decorate is to have  a colour theme instead of just painting the dining room in one colour. You can have a collection of accessories, dinner wares, furniture, florals, etc in a theme colour.

Colors to be avoided
Extremely bright colours are not recommended for dining areas because they may be distracting. Also, certain colours like pink, violet, black, etc should be avoided because they tend to suppress the appetite.
